Open a new 400 x 400 white canvas. Go to Edit/Fill and fill with
the texture Wallpaper 6. Go to Format/Dimentions to reduce your
image to a width of 100 pixels and a height of 100 pixels. Go to
Effects/Blur & Sharpen and sharpen your image to a level of
2 and then save this small tile to your hard drive as xmas.jpg,
we'll be using it in the next step.

Open a new 400 x 400 white canvas and using the Path Drawing
Tool set with Custom Shape - Heart; 3D Round; Colour Green; Border
15; Depth 30, draw a small heart shape and then right click to
duplicate it. With one of the hearts selected go to Edit/Fill,
click on the Image tab and then on the browse button to find the
tile (xmas.jpg) you saved, be sure that Tile the Image is selected
before clicking on OK.

***With your green heart selected, go to the Gallery in the
Easy Palette and double click on the Path Wrap 16 within the Wrap
Gallery, and then go to Effect/Blur & Sharpen/Gaussian Blur
and choose to blur with a varience of 3.***
Follow the steps above from *** to *** using the patterned heart,
but ending with a gaussian blur varience of 1. You now have 2
rings of heart which look rather dull. The dullness is essential
to make them look as though they're made of felt.
|
|
Select the patterned ring of hearts and using the Transform Tool
with your shift key held down make this ring slightly smaller,
then right click and select Align/Center Both.
Select the green
ring of hearts and then right click Align/Center Both. Using the Transform Tool, rotate
this one slightly so that both rings are arranged as you can see
in the image on the left.
|

|
Using the Outline Drawing Tool with a Circle 2D shape; a very
dark green colour and a width of 30, draw a circle. Right click
Align/Center Both and if necessary use the Transform Tool to resize
this circle so that it almost covers your heart rings. When you're
satisfied that it's the right size, send it to the back.
Right
click, Select All Objects/Merge as a Single Object and then move
it towards the top of your canvas.

|
To create the banner section, go to Path Drawing Tool set with
Custom Shape - Shape Edges 3; Border 15; Depth 30. Draw the shape
and use the Transform tool to resize it to your required size which
will be slightly smaller than the width of your ring of hearts.
Go to Effects/Blur & Sharpen/Gaussian Blur and blur to a varience
of 5. Duplicate this shape. Enlargen the duplicated one slightly
and fill with a darker green. Send to the back and you should now
have something similar to the image on the left ready to add your
Christmas greeting. |
|
Select both banner parts and move them to below your ring of
hearts and using the Path Drawing Tool; set with Rectangle Shape;
white; 3D round; Border 15; Depth 30, draw a long thin rectangle
and then duplicate it. Position as you see I have done in the
diagram on the left and then arrange them so that they go behind
the ring of hearts but between the two banner sections. Right
click and Select All Objects/Merge as a Single Object.

|
All that remains to be done is to make a couple of little bows,
add your text and perhaps add a shadow if you wish.
I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, but most of all, I hope you
have a very merry Christmas! :-)
