Create A Wrought Iron Candle Holder
In PI 7, 8, XL or Pro

1

Open a new canvas 400x400 (I like to have lots of room to work on).

Using the Outline Drawing Tool with Custom Shape - Heart; Colour black; Mode 3D; Border 3 and Depth 30; draw a heart shape outline and then click on Edit/Rotate & Flip/Flip Vertically. Use the transform tool to make your upside down heart outline thinner and longer.

2

Use the Path Drawing Tool with Custom Shape - Decoration 3; Colour black; Mode 3D; Border 3; Depth 30; draw the shape on your canvas. This is going to go as a decorative piece both towards the top and the lower part of your candle holder, so it doesn't need to be too big. Click on Object/Convert Object Type and then on From Text/Path to Image. Erase the lower part of Decoration 3, we won't be needing that bit.

3

Using the Outline Drawing Tool with an Ellipse Shape; Colour black; Mode 3D; Border 2; Depth 30; draw an ellipse outline small enough to formulate the loop at the top of your candle holder. Click on the Transform Tool and then on the perspective button, pull out the top of your ellipse outline to give it more of a tear drop look.

4

Using the Outline Drawing Tool with an Ellipse Shape; Colour black; Mode 3D; Border 3; Depth 30; draw an ellipse outline. Duplicate it and place each piece side by side. Hold down your shift key to select both ellipse outlines, then right click and select Merge as a Single Object. Erase areas as shown in the image on the left here. This is what I will refer to as the stems from now on.

5

Arrange all pieces as shown.

6

Using the Path Drawing Tool set on Colour black; 2D; draw a small ellipse to formulate the base of your candle cups and duplicate it twice and place one on the end of each stem and the last one at the bottom between the stems.

Use the Path Drawing Tool set on Colour black; 3D; with a border of 3 and a depth of 30; select Custom Shape - Round Shape 4 and draw it on your canvas (this needs to be small enough to fit on the candle cup bases. Use the perspective tool to give Round Shape 4 more of a cup shape.

7

To make the candles use the Path Drawing Tool with a Rectangle Shape; any colour you wish; Mode 3D: Border 7: Depth 30; draw a Rectangle and then click on Object/Convert Object Type and select From Text/Path to Image. Go over your rectangle a couple of times with the blur tool to take out any sharp looking edges there may look to be.

Use the Path Drawing Tool Custom Shape - Raindrop; 2 colour gradiant fill of yellow and red; Mode 3D; Border 7; Depth 30; draw a candle flame and then use the transform tool to increase the length of it slightly. Place the flame on top of your rectangle. Hold down the shift key to select both the rectangle and the flame, right click and Merge as a Single Object.

8

Duplicate the candle twice and place each one in the cup holders.

Finally draw a small black 3D ellipse shape and place it below the middle candle cup base. Select all Objects, Merge as a Single Object and your wrought iron candle holder is finished and ready to hang on a wall.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial :-)
