Description: Use the Path Drawing Tool and a filter to create this beautiful Satin Heart. Perfect for the romantic in you or for your Valentine Day greetings.

My terms of use for this tutorial are simple....What you create using this tutorial is yours to do with as you please. A link back to this tut is appreciated but is not a requirement. The tutorial itself along with the images herein are copyrighted to me and all rights are reserved.

Some of the filter screenshots here may look a little different to what you see because I'm using the plug-in manager Filters Unlimited which I can highly recommend, but the settings given are what you need to concern yourself with the most. Please refer to this tutorial should you need help with installing plugins into PhotoImpact.

1

Open a 300 x 300 blank canvas. Using the path drawing tool Custom Shape Heart, with a colour of your own choosing; 3D mode; Border 6 and Depth 30, draw a heart shape to amost fill your canvas.
2

Go to Effects/Two Moon Filter/Roto Blades and use these settings: Bade Reduction 35; Red Addition 128; Blue Addition 128; Green Addition 128.

3

Your heart should now look like the one on the left here.

4

Then using the Path Drawing Tool again with a much lighter colour of your own choosing; 3D mode; Border 30 and Depth 15, draw another heart shape, making this one a little smaller and placing in the center of the original one.

5

Go to Object/Convert Object Type/From Path to Image and go over your center heart a few times using the blur tool; round shape 100; level 5; soft edge 50, to take out the shininess and also to remove any sharp looking edges, giving it a much softer look.

Select the stamp tool. Select the silver_ball.ufo and then with a scale of 60; spacing of 75; placement as a set and object as grouped, go to Effect/Paint on Edges. This will produce a lovely row of what looks like pearls around your inner heart shape. Right click on your mouse to Select All Objects and then again to Merge as a Single Object.
7

Unzip and open the flower object you downloaded earlier. Right click on it and choose to ungroup it, press your spacebar to deselect and then click on the center of the flower to select just the roses. Go to Edit/Fill and choose a colour complimentary to your heart and be sure that the merge field is set on colorize.

Before you click on OK make a note of the Hex, we're going to need this code a little later.

8

Right click on your mouse to Select All Objects and then again to Merge as a Single Object. Using the Transform Tool resize your flower to make it smaller and then drag it from it's canvas towards the top left side of your heart. Select the Text tool with a nice font of your own choosing; Size 70; Mode 3D; with a Border of 15 and a Depth of 30.
9

Right click on the colour and select Ulead Color Picker and then type in the Hex code you made a note of earlier, then click on OK.

Click on the heart image to open the text box and type in a letter, and then on OK. Position your letter a little lower than central of the heart. Right click on your mouse to Select all Objects and then again to Merge as a Single Object.

Add a drop shadow if you like by right clicking on your mouse and selecting Shadow. Leave the settings as they are and click on OK.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial. Your beautiful satin heart is now finished and should look pretty similar to this one on the left. I'm sure, left to your imagination, you can find lots of things to do with it too!

If you're looking for something else to create using the blue rose or even for a stationery idea for this satin heart, then you might like to check out Deb's Pearl Scallop Border tut. Whatever you decide to do next, be sure to have fun!

I should like to thank Deb De Haven for allowing me to use her beautiful blue rose object for this tutorial.
