Create An Open Book Easily with
PI 6 & a Filter.

To make this open book you will need the DC Special Plugin Filters which can be downloaded from Here. The filter screenshot you will see here may look a little different to what you see because I'm using the plug-in manager Filters Unlimited which I can highly recommend, but the settings given are what you need to concern yourself with the most.

Please refer to this tutorial should you need help with installing the DC Special plugin into PhotoImpact.

Open a 600 x 400 blank canvas. Right click on your canvas and then on All to select it. Go to Effects/DC Special and use the Book Filter with these settings: Magazine Book 0; Page Phone Book 45. Click on Apply.

Click on Format/Dimentions and resize the selected object to 75% of it's original size being sure that the Keep Aspect Ratio box is checked.

Drag your book to the center of the canvas and deselect it. Then using the Path Drawing tool any colour or texture you like but with settings of rectangle; 3D Trim, with a border of 15 and a depth of 30, draw a rectangle that is slightly larger than your book. Click on the Standard Selection Tool and postion this rectangle behind the book to formulate the book cover.

Whilst the book cover is still selected, click on the Path Edit tool and then on Toggle and + edit point. Add three new path nodes at the top of your book and another three at the bottom as shown in the diagram.

Then click on the edit point selection and whilst holding your mouse button down, pull the center node in to the reach the center line of the pages of the book. Click on the toggle button to get you out of edit mode.

Select the pages of your book and fill with a yellow or any other colour of your choice with a transparancy somewhere between 85 and 90.

Right click and choose Select All Objects. Right click again and choose Merge as a Single Object. Your open book is now complete and is ready for you to add images or whatever else takes your fancy.

I bet you're glad you did this tutorial now...simple isn't it? :-)
